
RICHARD J. SOMMERS, Q.C.
Richard Sommers attended Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto from 1963 to 1966, and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1968. He was appointed Queen's Counsel (Q.C.) in 1980.
Mr. Sommers has been active for over 30 years in the province of Ontario, representing babies brain damaged at birth, cerebral palsy (CP) victims, as well as being involved in other types of medical malpractice.
He has been a guest lecturer in trial practice at Osgoode Hall Law School, and has lectured at numerous continuing legal education programmes, including those organized by the Law Society of Upper Canada (LSUC), the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), The Canadian Institute and the American Trial Lawyers' Association (ATLA).
Mr. Sommers has contributed to The Canadian Bar Review, the Osgoode Hall Law Journal, and the Advocates' Quarterly, and was a member for many years of the editorial board of the Advocates' Quarterly.
He is a member of the LSUC, CBA, County of York Law Association, the Advocates' Society, the Medical/Legal Society, and the ATLA.
The firm is recognized across Canada as one of the leaders in the area of obstetrical negligence, medical malpractice, products liability and general personal injury litigation.
ROBERT ROTH
Robert Roth graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1972, and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1974. He has a specialized practice in civil litigation with an emphasis, since 1978, in medical malpractice.
Mr. Roth has been certified as a Specialist in Civil Litigation since 1990 by the Law Society of Upper Canada. He has been a lecturer and participant in numerous seminars on behalf of the Canadian Bar Association, the LSUC (including the Bar Admission Course's trial advocacy programme), The Canadian Institute, and a contributor to various legal periodicals.
Numerous decisions involving medical malpractice and general civil litigation issues in which Mr. Roth was counsel have been reported in various case law publications.
He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, Canadian Bar Association, County of York Law Association, the Advocates' Society, and the American Trial Lawyers' Association.
ANDREAS G. SEIBERT
Andreas G. Seibert graduated from Dalhousie University Law School in 1995, and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1997.
Mr. Seibert has been involved with tobacco industry related issues since 1986, and is currently working on Sommers & Roth's cigarette litigation.
He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, and a contributor to The Canadian Bar Review.
HILIK Y. ELMALIAH
Hilik Elmaliah attended the University of Warwick Law School in the United Kingdom from 1990 to 1993. From 1993 to 1994, he attended Ottawa University Law School and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1997.
Mr. Elmaliah practices in the area of civil litigation with particular interest in medical malpractice and personal injury cases. He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and a contributor to the Advocates' Quarterly Journal.
