Sommers Roth & Elmaleh: Key Sponsor at the 2018 Toronto Abilities Expo
We are proud to announce that Sommers Roth & Elmaleh is a key sponsor at the Abilities Expo (Toronto), a fun, family-oriented, high-energy, high-profile conference that has been bringing together individuals with disabilities and their families and caregivers, seniors, and healthcare professionals across North America for more than 40 years.
Our involvement with the Abilities Expo reflects our dedication to working with, and enabling, children and families who are affected by a disability. We have been a part of the disability community for many years and remain committed to our role in changing lives for the better.
For the January 2018 Toronto Expo, Sommers Roth & Elmaleh sponsored the Workshops and Events Arenas.
The Expo will be coming back to Toronto in April 2019 but will also be in other North American cities throughout 2018, including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Houston, Boston, and San Mateo.
Sommers Roth & Elmaleh Workshops
We sponsored a program of carefully curated workshops that connected Expo attendees with various experts.
Workshops focused on a wide range of issues that affect individuals living with disabilities, including:
- Travel;
- Home access;
- Therapies; and
- Research.
All workshops were intentionally broad in nature and applied to individuals with many different disabilities.
One of our medical malpractice lawyers, Michael Hershkop, presented a workshop entitled Medical Errors and Disabilities: What You Need to Know. Michael provided Expo attendees with information about medical malpractice litigation and provided an overview on how personal injury and medical malpractice lawsuits worked. Michael highlighted critical elements of medical malpractice litigation including the basis steps in a typical case, deadlines for starting a lawsuit, the trial and settlement process, and practical tips for choosing the right lawyer.
This presentation was helpful to patients whose impairments may have been caused by medical negligence (and their families and loved ones).
Sommers Roth & Elmaleh Events Arena
In addition to sponsoring an agenda of informative workshops, we also sponsored an events arena where a number of adaptive sports took place, including:
- Wheelchair basketball;
- Wheelchair tennis;
- Wheelchair curling;
- Wheelchair rugby;
- Electric wheelchair hockey;
- Sledge hockey; and
- Sitting volleyball
The arena also included a Try Me Activity Area where attendees could try adaptive sports, see adaptive sport-specific equipment, and meet Paralympic athletes.
